Curious about African Mango Seed? What many people don’t know is that the very popular African Mango extract, doesn’t actually come from the mango fruit itself. The extract with all those fat burning properties actually comes from the African Mango seed or pit, which the locals in Cameroon call “Dikka Nuts”.
The local Cameroon ( the country in Africa where African Mango grows wild) people actually take the African mango seed and ground it into a powder. Sometime this powder is used as a thickening agent (like we use flour) in foods, or sometimes mixed with a drink. The African mango seed is also very high in fiber and certain anti-oxidants that have cancer preventing properties. The cancer prevention properties are actually very high, so we could be hearing more about “Dikka Nuts” in future medical trials.
When these nuts are ground to a powder for a thickening agent, the powder is typically used in a popular local soup called ogbono soup, or in some cases made into Gabon chocolate or Dikka Bread. The people eating these foods ate them for energy for their workday. It wasn’t until many years later that some scientists at Cameroon University noticed that the people eating African mango seeds were also thin and didn’t carry much fat around their midsection. You can read more about the study and “Dikka Nuts” here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irvingia.
This study also showed a few other interesting side effects of taking African Mango.
- Decreases blood sugar levels (this is great for diabetics)
- Lowers cholesterol levels, especially in obese people, by 39%
- Increases the good HDL cholesterol
- Study showed an average weight loss of 12.3 lbs of fat, every 28 days.
- Body fat decreased by an average of 6.3%, while the placebo takers didn’t experience any fat loss
